The Floating EHT supply unit is primarily intended to facilitate leakage current measurements of coaxial cable with the sheath at earth potential in conjunction with a picoammeter whose case (together with associated recorder outputs etc.) is also at earth potential. This high voltage supply is battery operated with a built-in charger.
In the FLOAT mode, the output is fully floating to 500Vdc or peak ac with >10
13ohms between LO and CASE.
A front panel switch is provided to enable the LO terminal to be connected to CASE when the instrument becomes a conventional EHT supply unit. The maximum output voltage is +1kV to -1kV and is set in 100V coarse steps together with a 0 - 100V 10 turn potentiometer. A digital panel meter indicates the voltage appearing across the output terminals. The Floating EHT unit is available in stand-alone and rack mounted versions.
This unit is a useful companion to the Cooknell CP13 Picoammeter.
