g and radiation and can be used to indicate an increase in background radiation thus alerting the user to a possible undesirable hazard.
A normal background count rate due to cosmic or other naturally occurring events in the region of 1-20 counts/minute indicates that the instrument is operating normally. Count rates less than 1 count in 5 minutes indicates battery failing or circuit malfunction.
