COOKNELL ELECTRONICS was formed in the late 1960's by a group of electronics engineers who had identified a demand for specialist electronics instrumentation, particularly in the nuclear industry. As the core of expertise lay in this area it was realised that a premium service and product could be offered in the field of nucleonic instrumentation. From a small unit at Watery Lane, Weymouth an increasing demand lead to a move to larger, purpose built premises on the Granby Industrial Estate allowing the company to grow & diversify. Today the company occupies laboratory, shop floor, office and workshop (including a wide range of metalworking facilities) space of around 7250sq feet. We supply to a broad range of customers in the telecommunications, nuclear & power generation, process control industries. Also, we are of service to scientific establishments, development organisations, universities, the M.O.D., including Qinetiq. Our goods are exported and used in over 20 countries. Our Electronics arm can offer design, manufacturing, servicing, test and calibration facilities as contained on our facilities page. We have a standard range of instrumentation available, however, these can be customised to suit individual customer requirements. Our Computer division offers consultancy services, sales, technical support and servicing. We build and sell a range of computer systems from individual P.C.'s to medium size networks. Our on-site retail outlet also sells a broad range of computer peripherals. Our associate company Cooknell Optronics has for nearly 10 years been designing and producing fibre optic products for the telecommunications and defence industries. The core business is the production of generic patchcords and pigtails but they also carry out prototype work and limited production runs to customers’ own designs.
